While I work with clients from all walks of life, I have a focus on serving the BIPOC, Latinx and Hispanic communities. I specialize working with people who have experienced trauma and live with anxiety. I take a holistic approach to counseling and focus on the importance of the roles that psychological, biological, environmental, spiritual, and social factors play in a client’s life. I subscribe to a developmental perspective and take an attachment-based approach, and I believe that the therapeutic relationship between the client and the counselor is ultimately the key to an effective counseling process. A therapeutic relationship that is based on attunement, empathy, and collaboration is foundational to therapeutic change. As your counselor, I will strive wholeheartedly to build this kind of transformative relationship with you.

Things are rough right now. It makes sense that many of us are struggling to keep going, overextending ourselves till we’re burntout, and feeling stuck in patterns that aren’t moving us towards the lives we want to live. I experience these challenges too and I know how important it is to have support. I offer in-person Covid-cautious therapy services to queer and trans individuals, couples, friends, and polycules in Portland, OR who long to root down and create a better world together.

As a therapist, I invite my clients to know and radically accept themselves more fully so they can create change from a place that is wise, honest, and compassionate. My clients often arrive anxious, hopeless, in painful cycles of conflict, and having tried many other therapists. They feel disconnected from themselves and their relationships. I guide couples and individuals toward the changes they want to see in their relationship by creating an accepting space to be curious, receive support, and get direct coaching on how to do it differently. I believe in a slow, deep, and holistic approach.

Accepting clients (daytime, in person), Feb 23rd. You are capable and high-functioning on the outside, while inside feeling tense, exhausted, or unsure of yourself. Many of my clients grew up needing to be responsible, emotionally attuned, or “easy” to survive — and now find their nervous system stuck on high alert. I work with adults who want to understand why they react the way they do, make sense of relational pain, and feel more grounded in their own reality. Therapy isn’t about fixing; it’s about helping your system finally feel safe enough to soften. My approach is trauma-informed, and paced to your nervous system.

As a therapist, I hold a deep belief that every client is the expert of their own life. My role is not to dictate change, but to walk alongside each individual—meeting them exactly where they are, with compassion, respect, and curiosity. I believe that meaningful growth begins when a person feels truly seen, heard, and understood. There is profound freedom and strength in this experience, and it creates the foundation for transformation. Using evidence-based practices, I help individuals and couples improve relationships, process trauma, manage life stress and find their path to growth. Our feelings about ourselves and our abilities influence our work, relationships and personal lives. I create an empathic, non-judgmental space to help get unstuck and foster the change you seek across your worlds. Taking that first step to seek support is daunting. I partner with clients to develop new skills and frameworks to help them navigate life's challenges.

The foundation of counseling is a nonjudgmental, empathetic, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. My first goal is to create a safe and accepting relational space where my clients can be their true selves and explore their emotions and experiences. I tailor treatment to the needs of each client, drawing on several different approaches, including AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy). Depending on the goals of my clients, I help them process past trauma, work through difficult emotions, address anxiety, and arrive at what attitude they want to adopt towards their struggles.

You may be here experiencing emotional pain, feeling stuck, sadness, fear, or generally unheard or not understood. Perhaps you’re looking to more fully understand who you are and dive deeper into why, or just a space to unload daily stresses. Shame and guilt can show up in our lives in ways we sometimes don’t quite understand, and loss can feel all encompassing. I find I work well with many populations, but particularly women and queer identities.

Few are the opportunities in modern life to ask the important questions. Psychotherapy is one such opportunity. It provides a crucial space to identify and transform suffering into greater openness and appreciation for ourselves and others. Often, more nuanced understanding of patterns of thought and behavior, and past events that affect us in the present, provides relief from troubling symptoms.

Emily works with individuals and couples (poly, ENM-friendly) in a holistic approach that emphasizes mind-body-spirit healing. Emily promotes neuroinclusivity and is LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex positive, body positive, anti-racist, and continuously learning. Emily attends to the impacts of societal expectations and systemic oppression and works to identify each person's acts of resistance and resilience. Her therapeutic style is relational and compassionate, informed by somatics, contemplative psychotherapy, nature-based therapy, IFS “parts work”, Hakomi, psychodynamic theories, and newer versions of cognitive behavioral therapies.

I believe that all humans are capable of growth and healing if given a safe and nurturing environment. I work with individuals of all ages, gender identities, and backgrounds to process and heal from trauma, cope with the stress of life, and manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and ASD. Chris Gorski, B.S., M.A.,YT, MT is a seasoned therapist with nearly 30 years of experience in the Counseling and Wellness field. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Counseling and Human Services from California State University, Fullerton, and a CACREP-accredited Master of Arts from the University of the Cumberlands. Registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, Chris specializes in couples' therapy, helping partners navigate their relationships with compassion and understanding.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who feel caught in cycles they can't seem to break. Whether rooted in anxiety, neurodivergence, burnout, religious trauma, or codependent and addictive behaviors, these patterns can leave you feeling disconnected and exhausted. Through compassionate, collaborative work, we'll explore what's driving these cycles and create pathways toward clarity and ease. My approach is down-to-earth and customized to your needs. For individuals, we will get into the nitty-gritty of what is driving the undesired behavior—for relationships, helping those same arguments find a different ending.

I work with adults and teens navigating complex trauma, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, and identity or purpose struggles. I also work with couples seeking deeper connection, repair, and clarity. I specialize in working with veterans, law enforcement, first responders, and their families - and as a veteran myself, I understand the culture, pressure, and unspoken weight that come with service. My work is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), philosophy, and relational, humanistic counseling.

Deciding to find a therapist is an important choice, and I'd be honored to work with you. I am a person-centered somatic art therapist. I use creativity and art processes as the language to access the parts of ourselves that need support with positive regard, unconditional acceptance and warmth, and somatic practices to reconnect the body, mind and spirit, and to integrate these experiences to increase flow through relational neurobiology. I also use EMDR and may incorporate other approaches as appropriate.
